Water Features for Gardens and Landscaping

POOLS    PONDS     NATURAL STREAMS    FOUNTAINS

Some form of water feature is suitable for most garden styles. Either formal or informal, they are lively and dynamic and bring an extra dimension to the garden design.

There is little to compare to the vivacity of fountains and they are extremely useful in small gardens, with the pleasant sound of running water.

Any water feature in your garden will attract wildlife and this is where a pond, designed with marginal plants, is easily constructed with butyl liner, with sand protecting the liner from stones underneath.

The key in designing water features is to ensure that the feature is neither in full sun nor in constant shade. Also, over-hanging trees can cause problems further down the line often resulting in poor water quality and low oxygen levels from decomposing leaves.

Large areas of water look more effective than small ones.  Smaller areas of water  must be integrated into the garden design to give the illusion of space. Pools should be a minimum of thirty-eight cm in depth and should contain steps for planting.

A steam running through the garden provides an extra dimension to the appearance of the garden, but you need to create dammed areas within the water course, if you want to grow water-lilies.

In the modern garden, we have created water-features from glass and stainless steel with dramatic effect. The development of water-features with new products are endless.
